 The Office of the Patient Experience at the School of Dental Medicine provides a comprehensive program for all phases of the patient experience. A comprehensive program includes training program for preventing and mitigating patient-related issues; systems of early detection and intervention; developing protocols to manage risk; and interaction in a proactive manner with patients, families, faculty, students and residents to resolve patient issues.

The primary function of the Patient Liaison is to support the Patient Experience Program Director in a role that enhances the patient, student, resident, faculty and staff relations. The primary responsibility is to address patient grievances, facilitate funding of dental treatment, and help to ensure an optimal patient experience.

Job Responsibilities

Patient Engagement – 50% (Essential Function)

  • Receive and investigate patient complaints and grievances
  • Collaborate with dental staff, faculty, student and resident providers to complete inquiries of patient complaints and/or self-reported incidents by faculty, staff and/or students, events or legal cases
  • Develop and implement action plan for each complaint or grievance
  • Recommend steps for action to mitigate legal exposure for the University. This includes recommendation in an emergency or immediate action situation.
  • Effectively communicate with the dental team, patients and their families, School of Dental Medicine Administration and, as necessary, legal counsel/University Risk Management
  • Be a resource for school policies and procedures for patients and providers, staff, and faculty
  • Provide counsel to assist providers in resolving patient issues on their own
  • Arrange for Language and Disability accommodations

Patient Funding Opportunities – 45% (Essential Function)

  • Oversight of eligibility verification/enrollment for patient funding programs
  • Advise providers on eligibility for additional funding opportunities, and coordinate applications process for presentation for committee review

Business Analytics–5% (Essential Function)

  • Use software system to report and track patient grievances
  • Identify trends and report to Patient Experience Program Director

Visiting Ancillary Services is the leading provider of visiting services to elderly residents confined to Nursing Homes and Long-Term Care Facilities. Summary of Position: 

Provide quality dental care and associated services to patients under the general supervision of a dentist and using established dental hygiene procedures. Assist other staff in a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties. Perform broad responsibilities for clinic and community dental health education activities. Ensure the efficiency and productivity of patient flow through timely, and accurate documentation of patient information. Willingness to learn and team player mentality is a must. The RDH’s actions and decisions must be consistent with Inner City Health Center’s (ICHC) mission statement.

Primary Accountabilities:

  1. Improve the oral health of patients through the delivery of periodontal therapies and other dental hygiene-related services.
  2. Enhance the efficiency of the clinic by performing expanded duties as allowable by law and as directed by the dentist. 
  3. Ensure all patients enjoy a positive experience and are treated with the care and compassion expected.
  4. Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained in a timely, accurate manner, and consistent with all HIPAA and related regulations and requirements.
  5. Ensure all tasks associated with patient care, patient administrative process, and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as clinic policies and procedures.
  6. Ensure direct patient care is delivered using established dental hygiene procedures.
  7. Develop favorable relationships with all patients. Interact positively with patients to provide information and education about oral hygiene, handle and resolve patient concerns with enthusiasm and empathy.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide direct patient care and dental services as trained, licensed, and assigned. Assess dental condition and needs of patient using approved patient screening procedures, including medical history review, dental charting, and periodontal charting.
  2. Evaluate overall oral health, examining oral cavity for signs of periodontal disease or possible cancers, including recessed & bleeding gums, and oral lesions.
  3. Expose radiographs with digital imaging software.
  4. Document dental history or chief complaint; record and report pertinent observations and patient reactions to dentists, as appropriate.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of established oral hygiene concepts and periodontal therapies. Properly diagnose patients who exhibit periodontal disease using clinical and radiographic evidence.  Subsequently, treatment plan the appropriate procedures which may include prophylaxis, periodontal scaling, root planning, debridement, supra and subgingival scaling and curettage, application of fluoride treatments, and application of protective sealants.
  6. Assist with or initiate emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients.
  7. Help patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment.
  8. Educate patients in oral hygiene and dental care, including proper tooth brushing, flossing, nutrition and need for professional care.
  9. Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the organization in promoting dental health.
  10. Interact positively with a diverse, and sometimes difficult patient population. Provide service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient’s age; and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs.

Registered Dental Hygienist (full-time)
Description:
We are looking to hire a Registered Dental Hygienist that can provide preventative and therapeutic patient care. This person’s primary responsibility would be to help patients fully understand how dentistry is an essential part of their overall health care. This individual must be professional and highly skilled with a main objective of helping patients make smart dental decisions. This position requires that you are thoroughly convinced that dentistry can change lives and that you are an essential member of a healthcare team that can make a huge contribution to people’s health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities:
Facilitating Ideal Patient Care
Helping patients to understand the value in WANTING the dentistry they NEED
Understand our philosophy of the hygiene department being a business within the business
Properly explaining treatment by co-diagnosing to increase case acceptance
Identifying opportunities such as restorative and cosmetic needs to help our patients achieve their overall dental goals
Ability to overcome patient objections to getting dental treatment done in a professional manner

Requirements/ Skills:

Compensation:
Compensation package will consist of a base salary ($40-$45 per hour) plus incentives based on Hygiene collection
Signing bonus of $2000.00
